A novel mechanism for flooding based route discovery in ad hoc networks

چکیده
To avoid the problem of wireless broadcast storm, the Random Rebroadcast Delay (RRD) approach was introduced in the process of flooding-based route discovery in DSR and AODV protocols. We identify the “next-hop racing” phenomena due to the RRD approach and propose a Positional Attribute based Nexthop Determination Approach (PANDA) to address this problem. Based on positional attributes such as the relative distance, estimated link lifetime, transmission power consumption, an intermediate node will identify itself as good or bad candidate for the next-hop node and use different rebroadcast delay accordingly. Through simulations we evaluate the performance of PANDA using path optimality, end-to-end delay, and transmission power consumption. Simulation results show that PANDA can: (a) improve path optimality, and end-to-end delay, (b) help find data paths with only 15%~40% energy consumption compared to the RRD approach.

A Novel Approach for Efficient Route Request Flooding in MANETs with Directional Antennas
In recent years, using directional antennas to reduce the amount of interference and collisions in mobile ad hoc networks has become more and more popular. Due to the problem of broadcast storm caused by flooding route requests, a novel route request flooding approach called Hexagonal Flooding Strategy (HFS) for Ad Hoc networks using directional antennas is introduced in this paper. With direct...

The ability to discover services in Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a major prerequisite. Cluster basedcross layer intelligent service discovery for MANET (CBISD) is cluster based architecture, caching ofsemantic details of services and intelligent forwarding using network layer mechanisms. The cluster basedarchitecture using semantic knowledge provides scalability and accuracy. Also, the mini...
متن کاملProbabilistic: A Fuzzy Logic-Based Distance Broadcasting Scheme For Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
An on-demand route discovery method in mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) uses simple flooding method, whereas a mobile node blindly rebroadcasts received route request (RREQ) packets until a route to a particular destination is established. Thus, this leads to broadcast storm problem. This paper presents a novel algorithm for broadcasting scheme in wireless ad hoc networks using a fuzzy logic syst...
متن کاملRouting and Broadcasting in Hybrid Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks
Hybrid ad hoc networks consist of two kinds of nodes, regular nodes and nodes with additional capabilities. For example, multi-hop cellular and wireless Internet networks consist of static or mobile nodes and access points to a fixed infrastructure. Each node may access fixed infrastructure either directly or via other nodes in multi-hop fashion. Another example is heterogeneous sensor networks...
متن کاملNeighborhood-Based Route Discovery Protocols for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
Network–wide broadcasting is used extensively in mobile ad hoc networks for route discovery and for disseminating data throughout the network. Flooding is a common approach to performing network-wide broadcasting. Although it is a simple mechanism that can achieve high delivery ratio, flooding consumes much of the communication bandwidth and causes serious packet redundancy, contention and coll...
متن کاملA Novel Extension for On-Demand Routing Protocol in Event-Driven Sensor Networks
We describe a problem of redundant flooding induced by multiple sensor nodes during route discovery in event-driven wireless sensor networks, and propose a novel extension to the on-demand ad hoc routing protocol, in order to reduce the number of signaling messages during the route discovery phase. That is, our extension reduces energy consumption during route discovery. The heuristically and t...
